Police Department of Economic Crime and Corruption (C46, Ministry of Public Security) on August 1 to prosecute the case, investigating signs of smuggling in the 213 containers at Cat Lai port (HCM) “missing”.
The incident was considered by the authorities to be particularly grave, not excluding the possibility of a handful of customs officers.
Earlier, the General Department of Customs discovered that by mid-2015 there would be 213 containers of 56 businesses transported through Cat Lai, then transshipped by road to Cambodia. However, this number of containers is then transported by the enterprises from the port but not to the export border gate according to regulations.
Through verification, all 56 enterprises are no longer operating or have no registered office address.
According to the General Department of Customs, the main cause of the problem is that some staffs of Saigon Port Customs Sub-Department at Region I (HCMC Customs Department) have not properly implemented business process (update information To monitor the status of goods transportation, tracing goods after the expiration of the registration time limit, without confirming the arrival of the goods …).
In addition, businesses have taken advantage of the advantages in licensing business registration and post-licensing management to smuggle.
The General Department of Customs has directed to consider and discipline a series of civil servants who commit wrongdoing. Having questioned the number of containers have been smuggled in Vietnam, Customs has coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security, Police Ho Chi Minh City to investigate.
