On the afternoon of August 2-8, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development officially launched a national plan on management of antibiotic use, antibiotic resistance in livestock and aquaculture.
This program runs from 2017-2020, funded by the US Agency for International Development, including the objectives of monitoring the management of the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry, the good practice of the production of animal feed, and the Good husbandry and aquaculture.
At the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam said the ministry had banned the use of antibiotic-based animal feeds for growth purposes from 2018.
By 2020, the use of antibiotics for the prevention of animal diseases will be banned.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will also discuss the list of antibiotics for animals, the list of antibiotics for humans, the restrictions on the use of common antibiotics for animals and humans.
Speaking at the plan launch, representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization said antibiotic resistance is threatening the sustainability of agricultural production, threatening people’s health.
